The Ottawa Senators (French: Les Sénateurs d'Ottawa) are a professional men's hockey team based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. They are members of the Northeast Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Senators are the current Eastern Conference champions, holders of the Prince of Wales Trophy, and runner-up in the 2007 Stanley Cup Finals.
Founded in 1991 by Ottawa real estate developer Bruce Firestone, the team is the namesake of the original Senators hockey club of 1884 to 1934 which won 10 Stanley Cups and was one of the founding five teams of the NHL. From their first season of play in 1992-93, the club has seen hard times, both on and off the ice. Today the club is now one of the most successful in the league, featuring several top star players and is one of the top teams in average attendance.
